369380644_b2de7805f21One of our sales reps recently came to me with a new product he’d found.  Buzzirk Mobile is offering $89.95 for unlimited data, domestic, and the kicker, international calling to 20 countries.

With such a large percentage of our consumer base originating from other countries, this offer looked pretty promising.  So, we started to dig and found a few interesting things.  Interesting in a scary way.

There are a collection of entities involved with a company called Zer01 involving the service, Buzzirk  Mobile being the brand name, and Global Verge the marketing entity.

First off, distribution seems to be entirely based on multi-level marketing.  Distributors buy in with up-front investments as well as monthly payments.   But apparently that queues one up for all sorts of riches as their “unique 3×9 pay matrix” can contain up to 29,523 people.  29,523!

Second, the service hasn’t launched yet, so none of the service features can be verified.

As a bonus, This article from ComputerWorld indicates the CEO for Global Verge has been convicted of securities fraud, including a similar scheme where sales reps paid up front for opportunities selling a service that was never launched.

The finishing touch is also in the ComputerWorld article, as it casts doubt on whether this service CAN be provided.  The service is supposedly launching in August, so we’ll see if it launches or if there’s an “unforeseen delay”.

If it’s all legit, I guess I’ll have missed the ground floor of the 29,523 person matrix, but such is the price of caution.
